Seton Catholic Central High School is a co-educational institution located in Binghamton New York (map). Staffed by laity, religious sisters, and diocesan priests, Seton serves the youth of Broome County as well as students from the Syracuse, Rochester and Scranton Dioceses.
Seton is the flagship of the Catholic Schools of Broome County educational experience. This system is part of the Diocese of Syracuse. It is a high school of eminent academic standards maintaining a solid reputation within the community as a school of high academic achievement. The Seton curriculum challenges and prepares students for educational and professional pursuits beyond their high school years.
Friendly and warm, Seton Catholic Central is a high school where teachers know students by name and students form friendships which last a lifetime. By offering the National College Board Advanced Placement curriculum, Seton enables its graduates to enter college with advanced standing. Spiritually grounded in a Catholic atmosphere, the school offers Mass daily in the school chapel. All Seton students attend courses in theology for a greater understanding of their responsibilities and commitment as faith-filled Christians.
Students, faculty, staff and parents come together at Seton
Catholic Central to work, support and help each other in a
Christian community. Because each student is a special
creation of God, all accept each other and strive to encourage each
to become all that he/she is capable of becoming. Creating an
atmosphere, in which individuals feel good about themselves by
belonging to the SCC family, where each person's gifts are valued,
does this. Growth at SCC is encouraged spiritually, intellectually,
socially and physically.
Spiritual unity is evident in the celebration of the Eucharist, both in small-group and school-wide Masses, in the sacrament of reconciliation and in season Church events. The SCC community prays together at the start of each day, in classes, on retreats, and in the school chapel, which is always open for prayer. These activities promote an attitude of respect and concern for one another.
Intellectual development is fostered by a strong academic curriculum at Seton Catholic Central. The purpose of the academic program is to serve the needs of and to challenge each student to excel at his/her level of capability. Students are required to complete a three-year sequence in their chose elective field and are encouraged to pursue a fourth level. In all intellectual endeavors, students seek the internal discipline necessary for success.
Social cooperation and responsibility are emphasized in daily life at SCC. The rights of everyone are respected. In communication with one another, each person is aware that each individual has something to contribute to the good of the whole.
The conviction that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit impels each member of the SCC community to be responsible for personal care and physical development. This attitude is fostered in the physical education and health curriculum as well as in the sports programs.
Seton students know who they are and they know where they are going. Over ninety percent of last year's graduates attended the college of their choice. This statistic is impressive, yet it is not as impressive as the caliber of the young people who fill the halls and classrooms at Seton Catholic Central High School. Visit Seton Catholic Central High School today and see what great faith we have in their future.
