946 / 947. YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Full year course, Grades 11-12
Credits: 2 Jr. year / 3 Sr. year

This program is an opportunity for juniors and seniors to explore the direct connection between school learning and employment while working in their occupational field of interest. Students apply for paid positiions in local companies in their sophomore year and participate in the two-year program in their junior and senior years. There is also a one-year option where students may apply in their junior year and participate in their senior year only.

Youth apprentices leave school for part of the day and usually work 10-20 hours per week, rotating through a series of placements at the worksite. In each rotation, apprentices work under the direction of a coach or mentor. Students can earn up to five Regents credits over the two years.

Students interested in this program should consult with their school counselor.
